Position Summary
Perform moderately complex functions in the design, fabrication, modification and/or evaluation of manufacturing operations. May prepare complicated plans, conduct support studies, and provide analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing operations. May assign work to drafters and/or technicians and provide guidance to lower-level engineers.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical design, development, and execution of subsea systems, with a primary focus on Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This role requires technical expertise in underwater vehicle systems design, and the ability to guide projects from concept through deployment, including design, analysis, production, and testing. The position is primarily office-based with periodic travel support during testing and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Perform moderately complex functions in the design, fabrication, modification and/or evaluation of manufacturing operations. May prepare complicated plans, conduct support studies, provide analysis or tests in the development of manufacturing operations. May assign work to drafters and/or technicians and provide guidance to lower-level engineers
- Responsibilities are diverse in scope where analysis of situations or data requires sound judgment
- Lead the mechanical design and development of subsea ROV components and systems for the U.S. Navy
- Perform and oversee engineering analyses including structural, fatigue, and thermal evaluations
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications
- Select materials and coatings suitable for subsea environments, including high-pressure and corrosive conditions
- Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards and best practices (ABS experience preferred)
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical/electro-mechanical, systems/controls, manufacturing) to ensure system integration
- Define manufacturing approaches, assembly processes, and quality control requirements
- Oversee prototype fabrication, system integration, and build activities
- Plan, execute, and lead testing programs including factory acceptance testing (FAT) and subsea trials
- Analyze performance data and drive design improvements and issue resolution
- Support offshore operations, testing, and troubleshooting as needed
- General guidance given on new assignments as needed

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field with 5+ years applicable engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and experience
- Specialties may include production, industrial, welding, tooling, testing, processing, and robotics
- 8+ years of relevant experience in subsea, marine, or similar industries
- Experience with underwater vehicles or subsea systems design and development
- Proficiency in CAD/modeling software
- Strong background in engineering analysis tools, FEA required
- Proficiency in SolidWorks required
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, and design for manufacturability
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Strong leadership and technical decision-making capability
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration
- Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality, reliability, and safety
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Willingness to engage in hands-on testing and support frequent travel/field-testing, as required
- Knowledge of subsea materials, sealing systems, pressure housings, and corrosion mitigation desired
- Strong background in engineering analysis tool CFD a plus
- Proficiency ANSYS Simulation Software preferred
- Experience fielding systems for the U.S. Navy is highly desirable
- Familiarity with ABS standards and classification requirements is highly desirable

The annualized pay range for this role is $103,000.00 - 140,000.00 USD along with a discretionary target incentive compensation plan. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of the experience level for the role described above.
